KJ Johns is a communications professional with two bachelor’s degrees in English literature and teaching English literature, which is an elegant way of saying that she loves words, and has done her fair share of reading, writing, and analyzing works of fiction. Although she has been writing since she was a child, Torch Songs was her first published book. It was also the start of the Chosen Family Mysteries, which was something that she knows a great deal about first-hand since she has created her own found family in military communities across Canada.

The tiny spark of inspiration for this series was the light at the end of a difficult time in her life, and she credits Kay with stoking her passion for the English language again. Like Kay, she is a Canadian military spouse and the parent of an autistic child. Currently residing in a 100-year-old house near the St. Lawrence River, when she is not working full time, being the primary caregiver of her son, or holding down the fort while her husband is overseas, she is already plotting the further adventures of Kay and Jules.

 

Unfortunately, though warmly welcomed, her house ghost count steadfastly remains at zero.
